Insuring a Home Atlas Insurance

This company is part of the Atlas Group, which provides a range of insurance and financial services from its Ta’ Xbiex head office. It has a network of intermediaries throughout Malta and Gozo and has links to AXA through its healthcare products. Atlas claims to provide easy to understand policies with flexible formats. It offers loyalty discounts for regular customers as well as discounts if you are a senior citizen or your home has a burglar alarm fitted.

Buildings insurance provides the usual cover against fire, lightning, flood, escape of water, falling trees and other catastrophes of various kinds. There’s also accidental damage cover for fixed glass, ceramic hobs, bathroom fittings, underground cables and pipes. Architects’ fees and damage removal are covered, as are rent and alternative accommodation.
Contents cover includes loss of credit cards in Malta, replacement locks, loss of money, property in transit or in the open, accidental damage to audio/video equipment, glass and ceramics, metered water and other features. Everything’s replaced on a new for old basis and the insurance includes full theft cover where there’s no forced entry, free personal liability for damage to others and an element of automatic death benefit. The contents cover also includes injury to domestic staff.
There are several optional extras at additional cost:

  • frozen foods in a freezer or refrigerator
  • accidental damage to buildings and contents
  • personal belongings on an all risks basis, either in Malta only or worldwide
  • personal accident cover for death or disability, with weekly payments for temporary disability and medical expenses covered
  • annual travel insurance, which varies depending on the number of trips, level of cover and geographical limits.
If you don’t know how much to insure your contents for, there’s an online form where you can record everything and work out a total value.
